“Pure function is the principle of this spartan pullover. The Baby Retro Paddling Pullover is designed to fit perfectly under a paddling shell, but it's also a glove fit under an Olympic Class Pullover or SST Jacket. Baby Retro is a total insulation package: Brushed Capilene"-treated mesh laminated to ¼-inch thick pile creates a warm, supple fabric. This combination is significantly warmer than Synchilla® pile (in fact, it's about as warm as Patagonia's old Pile Jacket). It's the best pile we've ever used for paddling in cold conditions. The mesh liner wicks moisture quickly away from the body into the pile. (The holes in the mesh trap warm air, further increasing the paddler's warmth.) From there, the moisture migrates out to the fabric's fuzzy tips. The garment is cut short, just to the waist, so it won't conflict with a spray skirt or the waistband of a paddling jacket, and the sleeve length stops just short of the seals on your paddling shell. (The shorter torso and sleeve length fits women well - it's a big favorite as an overall layering garment for many of the women working at Patagonia.) The cuffs, collar and waist are trimmed with fast-drying nylon/Lycra® tape. Finally, Y-Joint sleeves ensure that your inner layer will have as much flexibility as your outer one. Made in USA” (Patagonia, Fall 1991).
