Notes: A truly legendary vintage Patagonia Retro Pile Cardigan from Spring 1990 in excellent lightly worn preowned condition for its age with minor signs of wear. A previous owner had this garment professionally altered and added underarm zippers for greater ventilation under both arms/sides as seen in photo 5.

“This jacket represents the second generation of Patagonia pile. This pile doesn't pill as badly as the old stuff, although it will clump; in Retro you will resemble a mature sheep. It's as warm as the old pile which means it's about 15% warmer than Synchilla* pile; it falls between Synchilla and down on the warmth scale. Pile was famous for wearing ludicrously well and taking astonishing abuse. Here, however, all resemblances end. The Retro Pile is laminated on the inside to Capilene tricot which will wick moisture off the skin and allow it to spread out over the tricot hem from the body then pushes the water vapor out onto the pile fibers where, acting as water acts on hair it will "climb" them and eventually evaporate into the air. The pockets are made of a unique lightweight mesh; it will help transport and disperse moisture and it's brushed to make the pockets comfortable. The chin flap seals out drafts, even more kind is its soft strip of Synchilla lining. Made in USA” (Patagonia, Fall 1990).
