“Climbing ice, whether on the rime at altitude or the smear of a mixed des-perate, requires a shell with minimal weight and excellent breathability. The Ice Nine Jacket is made from a 3-layer GORE-TEX XCR™ fabric composite (25% more breathable than classic Gore-Tex) and treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to provide complete waterproof/breathable pro-tection. Salient design features: reinforcements in high-wear areas (shoulders, lower arms and hips) to resist abrasion and punctures; Optipull hood allows peripheral vision and one-handed adjustability; laser-cut windows with glued-in, water-resistant zippers that eliminate the need for bulky storm flaps, and extra-long, two-way pit zips to spill heat on the ascent. Details include: soft chin flap, roomy, easy-access handwarmer pockets, external flash pocket, internal mesh pocket for drying and stowing gear, and adjustable waist and hem. Imported” (Patagonia, Fall 2001).
