“Patagonia Bunting garments are the most popular and most stylish in our pile clothing line. Bunting fabric is 100% polyester that is brushed on both sides and feels soft and comfortable against your skin. The main difference between our conventional pile clothing and bunting is in how they breathe. Bunting is less porous than pile which makes it more windproof, but the more windproof a garment is the more difficult it is to ventilate. While pile allows excess heat to escape through its less dense fabric, bunting doesn’t allow precise temperature regulation as easily. Pile is advantageous for strenuous sports in nasty conditions, but bunting comes into its own for less active sports in milder climates, like rafting, cross country skiing and beachcombing on cold days. Bunting garments are a perfect example of our effort to create functional, good-looking clothing that is built to last… This jacket is hip length and features a full length zipper up through the top of the collar. It has slanted zip front pockets for easy access and nylon ribbed cuffs and waistband” (Great Pacific Iron Works, 1982).
